The City Government of Manila signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to launch their locality’s implementation of youth employment facilitation services through JobStart Philippines on February 23, 2021 at Manila City Hall.
JobStart is a 5-year old program of the DOLE aimed at enhancing the employability of Filipino youth through full-cycle employment facilitation services.
Said MOA will provide life skills training to one hundred youth beneficiaries.
Present during the MOA signing were Manila Mayor Francisco Moreno Domagoso, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique R. Tutay, DOLE-National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Director, Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol, and Manila Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Fernan Bermejo.
Before the signing of MOA, an audiovisual presentation about JobStart was exhibited to provide an overview of the program. Meanwhile, in a video message, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said the COVID-19 pandemic had severely affected the labor market, especially the youth. However, he emphasized that the collaboration of the City Government of Manila with DOLE will enable them to address youth unemployment and will help Manileño youth to determine the right attitude and skills toward attaining a decent job.
Mayor Moreno expressed his gratitude to the labor department for its continuous support to the City of Manila. He said that their LGU’s PESO continuously look for employment opportunities for the Manileños to help get through the economic crisis brought about by the pandemic.
