About 12,466 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) received the labor department’s one-time financial assistance of P10,000 (USD 200), the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) said in their final report as of June 15, 2020.
It only covered land-based and sea-based OFW beneficiaries who have been repatriated to the Philippines (Balik Manggagawa) and whose AKAP application was reviewed and evaluated by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Regional Welfare Office in NCR.
DOLE-NCR, which facilitated the release of AKAP cash aid for the above said Balik Manggagawa OFWs, disbursed a total of Php 124,660,000.00 since its program launch. Of the said total amount, its first tranche worth Php 71,240,000.00 pesos benefitted 7,124 OFWs while its second tranche worth 53,420,000.00 pesos benefitted 5,342 OFWs.
Balik Manggagawa beneficiaries personally claimed the cash aid through nearest Landbank or Palawan Express Pera Padala branches in NCR.
Signed by Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III on April 8, 2020, the DOLE-AKAP or Department Order No. 212, series of 2020, is one of the COVID-19 mitigating measures of the government to provide financial assistance to displaced OFWs due to their host-country’s implementation of lockdown or community quarantine or have been infected by the COVID-19.
